Mat Reid Seminar at Pro-active MA

Posted: 07 March 2010

Shihan Johnny got the opportunity to train with Australian Thai Boxing Champion and trainer Mat Reid on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th March. The friday night covered clinching skills where he focused on keeping things simple, learning how to turn your opponent effectively and making good use of a variety of different kneeing combinations.

The Saturday afternoon seminar started with some alternative warm up drills which was allot of fun and set the mood for the day. He then put us through our paces with heaps of pad-work, making sure we where doing the techniques correctly. Repetition was the key. We then got to play around with the Superman punch then onto some sparing drills.

The whole weekend was allot of fun and Mat's easy going nature made it enjoyable by all. We look forward to Nigel, Anna and the team at Pro-active MA bringing more quality instructors for all of us to learn from in the future.

For more upcoming seminars please check out our upcoming events page.

As many of us find, having a family, going to work and dealing with the day to day issues in life can have its affects on the body and mind, The decision to compete was one of motivation to get fit, lose some weight and have a goal to strive for.

If you are interested in competing in tournaments please talk to your club instructor as there are many types of compeitions available and is a great way to build confidence and gain valuable life skills.

Shihan Kennedy will be competing in the Kick boxing ring at the Riccarton club on the 24th April. Doors open at 6pm and the first match will start a 7pm. If you would like to come tickets will be available to purchase on the 1st April. This is a R18 show so if older children would like to attend they will need parental guidance.

KFMA Rakaia First class 2010

Posted: 11 January 2010

The Rakaia KFMA had there first class training for 2010 on the Monday the 11th January.  It was a good turn out with members from the junior and senior classes attending.

Shihan Johnny, Lew, Rachelle, Phil, Penny & Maddison from the Christchurch KFMA  also attended the senior class as CHCH classes dont start till the 18th.

Sensei Amanda did a great job in sweating the excess food and drink that we had gained over the xmas & new year break.

The class started with our Koryu warm-up then went straight into high energy cardio drills incorporated with pad-work. We then went into some plyometric exercises before we started working on our flow drills. Sensei then finished the class going over our first Kata - Chokyu. It was a Awesome class, and all I can say is bring on Wednesday.

The Legendary Fighters of Evil - By Amanda vanVliet

Posted: 17 December 2009

Previously called the "Black belt"club, "The legendary fighters of Evil" were introduced to the KFMA members at our 15 year anniversary celebrations. The concept was created by Sensei Amanda to give the students in our kids classes real life role models to look up to representing the different Black belts in the club. Each Blackbelt has a animated figure and a special code name that relates to their fighting personality.

From the back row starting on the left side here are our LFOE!

Sensei "Chopper" Ben, "Machette" Will, Dai Sampei "Cobra" Nadia, Sensei "Pummelator" Ryan, Dai Sampei "Jet Stream" Brad, "Hailstorm" Hailey, Shihan Johnny "The Rocket" and Sensei "Nitro" Amanda.

Watch this space as personal profiles will soon be released on the members of the LFOE.
