It is a real pleasure to introduce you to our class instructors and technical committee. All Kennedy’s Instructors have a minimum of 8 years training and in most cases 14 + years.
 
They are well schooled in all aspects of the martial arts and are up to date with first aid procedures and age-appropriate drills and skills to help with your own/and or your child’s personal development.

We also have regular training camps, attend seminars and have regular meetings to ensure you receive the highest level of tuition with a focus on “Easy to Learn” effective self defence and safe fun training practices.

Ryan has been training with Kennedy's FMA since its doors first opened over 19 years ago. Previous to this he had trained in wrestling, boxing and Okinawan Goju ryu before deciding to join Zen do Kai where he meet Sensei Johnny Kennedy. Ryan has his own school where he focuses on strong, hard training sessions with a passion in the thai boxing arena. Over the years he has trained many successful fighters and has travelled to thailand and around the world to improve his martial arts skills. In 2013 Sensei Ryan was awarded his Yondan under Shihan Kennedy been the first graded 4th dan in the KFMA organization.

Ben has Been with Kennedy's FMA since it first opened its doors in 1994. With a passion for BJJ and Arnis (Stick fighting) Ben's classes are always full of different and exciting things to do. He also has a indepth background in the medical industry which helps our students to learn accurate information about the human body its functions and it anatomical weaknesses which helps us find the most effective techniques to use in any situation.

Amanda started training at the start of 2001 after enrolling her two children into karate for Self-defence. From an early stage in Amanda’s training you could see a burning desire to give it all. Totally committed to training, her many hours of hard work, both in and outside the club has seen her excel in the art. Following in the tradition of many of the other Black belts, Amanda also has a passion in the competition arena and has won many regional and national tournaments throughout the years. After seeing the benefits that karate has done for herself and her family, Amanda opened the first sister training centre in her home area of Rakaia. Since this time she has built up a strong club with fantastic family values.

Nadia has been with Kennedys FMA since 2001 and is the Senior instructor and owner of the KFMA Christchurch Training Centre. Over the years she has grown from strength to strength in all aspects of her martial arts training and has won many competitions throughout New Zealand and Austraila. A school teacher in Ashburton, Nadia has a very good way with the kids and comes up with fun and challenging new drills to keep them on there toes. Nadia is also a current KNZ regional karate champion.

Originally from China, then migrated to New Zealand. Master Lee has been an important asset to the Kennedys FMA team. A figure of little words Master Lee has played a major role in both the junior and senior classes giving them hours of ground and pound pleasure. His ability to take huge amounts of punishment time after time makes him one of our most valuable training tools at our centre.

Sampei Connor Edmunds began karate training at the age of 6 Joining Kennedy’s in 2008 along with Dad, Mike Edmunds, they enthusiastically embraced freestyle martial arts.Gaining his adult black belt at the age of 14 and helping with teaching kids classes at Johnny’s dojo in Christchurch, Connor was keen to take Johnny’s style to his hometown in Rangiora.The opportunity to secure a new school hall for a training venue, has led Connor and Mike to start Kennedys FMA Rangiora branch.

Alex Barns joined the Kennedy’s Freestyle Martial Arts family when he was 6 years old. He has risen through the ranks to become a Shodan. He has taken on assisting Sensei Amanda with Junior classes at the Rakaia Club. This year Alex has also taken on the role of assistant coach to Sensei Nadia for the Tournament Teams for the South Island Champs and Top of the South Competitions. He was one of the first red belts for KFMA and along with his brothers, the first junior black belts in KFMA. Alex has received a range of medals from gold to bronze in both TKD and Points Fighting tournaments.

Liam is in his 9th year of KFMA and he started when he was 6. He is the rank of Shodan. Liam has 4 medals: a silver medal in the South Island Champs and bronze medal in the NZ nationals for taekwondo; bronze in a south island points fighting tournament; bronze in the kata division in a KFMA club tournament. Liam helps to teach the junior class at the Rakaia dojo and he has been doing this for 4-5 years. He was also one of the first red belts ever in KFMA and one of the first junior black belts. Liam enjoys karate and the family environment of Kennedy’s.

This is Ricky Barns. He’s was National Champion for his age weight and rank in 2012.He started training with Sensei Amanda when he was 4.He is a black belt (Shodan).Ricky is the youngest black belt in KFMA so far.He has 6 medals mounted on his wall at home all from either competing in nationals for taekwondo, South Island Champs or Top of the South.He has 1 medal from Regional’s for points fighting.Ricky took the gold in the club tournament for kata (gold up against 13-16 year olds). He also teaches juniors and some adults and has been teaching for 4-5 years. He and his brothers were the first red belts and first junior black belts in KFMA.
